SkyTEM at Riikonkoski
Riikonkoski is of interest to Taranis, since the deposit remains open at depth, and possibly along strike to the north and south. In the spring of 2011, Taranis undertook flying the property with SkyTEM - one of the largest airborne electromagnetic systems available for mineral exploration. The purpose of the survey was two-fold. The first was to ascertain if the the deposit had an EM "response". The second was to see if there were any other identifiable EM responses around the deposit that had not been explored. The survey was flown on very wide spacing (500 m) since it was not known if the deposit would generate a response, and this work was done as an accessory to a much larger and more detailed survey completed at Naakenavaara.
The SkyTEM Response to Riikonkoski Copper-Gold Mineralization
Riikonkoski exhibits an excellent EM response as shown on the cross section below. This cross-section corresponds to drilling section 7518980 North and was directly overflown by SkyTEM line 400401. The magnetic body shown on the left is identical to the one shown on the magnetic inversion page, and merely represents a cross-section through that body. The drill holes are angled to the east, and the values greater than $100/tonne copper-gold mineralization are shown as histograms adjacent to the drill holes. Channels 3 through 15 are shown for the Low Moment below, and these clearly show a response over the deposit, and identified the deposit as having a dip to the west. Note the presence of another anomaly on the west side of the magnetic body.
This image shows the high-moment repsonse for channels 3 through 12 over the same cross-section. The high-moment is measuring the deeper response over the area.
