SkyTEM Around Riikonkoski
Riikonkoski is of interest to Taranis, since the deposit remains open at depth, and possibly along strike to the north and south. In the spring of 2011, Taranis undertook flying the property with SkyTEM - one of the largest airborne electromagnetic systems available for mineral exploration. The purpose of the survey was two-fold. The first was to ascertain if the the deposit had an EM "response". The second was to see if there were any other identifiable EM responses around the deposit that had not been explored.
What SkyTEM Revealed
Five lines that were completely over the deposit at 500 m spacing showed that the Riikonkoski Copper-Gold Deposit is related to a large NNE-trending structure that has very high associated conductivity. The structure can be traced for over 2 km, and continues north of the current area of interest. It is quite likely that the deposit continues further to the northeast. It should also be noted that there is a second feature of highly anomalous conductivity to the east, and this has not been explored. The reason of the structure is not known, but it should be noted that it flanks the east side of the larger magnetic body that occurs on the west side of the structure. This suggests that the intrusive is older than the structure, and the NNW-trending fault skirted the edge of the intrusive body - a common feature found in structurally controlled copper-gold deposits.
